Track Name: In the Dark
The shadow of a cypress tree,
Falls through the shades were you are urging me to speak,

The distance forming in my eyes,
Blows clouds into clear blue Southern skies in mind,

Lean your chest towards my mouth,
So I can whisper to your heart,
And tell you tales about the South,
And kiss you softly in the dark,

Highways plowing through the clay,
And Spanish moss, j'ai le mal du pays, they say,

Country songs and delta blues,
Amalgamate in telescoping hues, and booze,

There’s more to me than meets the eye,
Experience stretched out over miles and miles,

But if you were to write me,
And tell me that I’m the only one you love,

I’d turn this thing around and I’d go,
Back were I can sink in your arms,
And speak the only way that I know,
But kiss you softly in the dark,

This time the spinning wheels caught me sitting on my heels,
Songs ring that I have heard and draw me back to where they occurred,
My darling only you could wring the words out from me true,
So if asked I will go back up the country with cold, sleet and snow,

I’ll turn this thing around and I’ll go,
Back were I can play both my parts,
I’ll still be pressed to talk even though,
I’ll kiss you softly in the dark.
Track Name: Arron
Arron would walk along with bare feet in the sand,
Moving along the edge of the eastern borderland,
And he’d raise his arms as he would shout out to the crowd,
And would clamor back for the image of a cow,

Then came a flash of light,

Arron would shade his eyes from the western setting sun,
Over the pyramids when the day was done,
I’d walk away from him as we spoke different tongues,
And hide in the wilderness for faith but finding none,

Arron would cup his hand in the current of the Nile,
And hold them aloft as we would move in single file,
And we would toil under rays cast from the sun,
And pile stones aloft towards the heavens by the ton,

I was walking out in the desert when the ice fell from the clouds,
It was hailing down,
I was walking by the water’s edge when the frogs jumped from the pond,
They were raining down.
Track Name: Argonne
My girl was a long glass, sweating in the sun,
It would shine on hours we’d pass, until the day was done,

I am not a bright man, but I know wrong and right,
I know when to take God’s hand, bleed into the light,

My eyes saw white,
Like snow in the summer time,
My mind knows right,
Like the flow of the water,

Two born in the summer heat, they both lived to two,
One died where the waters meet, the other from the flu,

I don’t know the proper line, but I know right from wrong,
If they didn’t leave before their time, then I have lived too long,

There’s a man on the water and his heart is hanging down,
Blue eyes turn to green & blood flows from the ground,
First-borns fade away & melt into the crowd,
We won’t be leaving till this world turned around,

Stepped over the ramparts, into no-man’s land,
I carried a man’s heart, across the barren sands,

Through fire and sulfur, with young legs born to run,
I was stopped sudden flash, in the summer sun.
